Adopt a Coral Program
Coral reefs are the rainforests of the sea, bustling with life and critical to marine biodiversity. Yet, these vibrant ecosystems are threatened by climate change, pollution, and overfishing. By adopting a coral, you can support vital research and conservation efforts to protect and restore these invaluable underwater habitats. Join us in our mission to uncover the secrets of the super corals and ensure a thriving future for our oceans.
A Mission to Protect and Preserve Coral Reefs
Coral reefs are vital to the health of our oceans and the planet, providing habitat, food, and protection for countless marine species. However, they are severely threatened by climate change, pollution, and overfishing. You can make a difference by adopting a coral through our program, which supports crucial research and conservation efforts.
Our Collaboration with Innoceana
We are proud to collaborate with Innoceana, a leading marine conservation organization, to bring you the "Adopt a Coral" program. Innoceana is dedicated to innovative research and practical conservation efforts, making significant strides in understanding and protecting coral reefs. Through this partnership, we leverage cutting-edge technology and scientific expertise to ensure the success of our coral adoption initiative.
How the Program Works
Our "Adopt a Coral" program is designed to protect and study coral reefs through a series of innovative steps:
- Coral Identification and Tagging: We identify and tag individual coral colonies in the Pacific Ocean, creating detailed 3D models using non-invasive photogrammetry. This allows us to monitor their health and growth accurately.
- Systematic Evolution Tracking: By georeferencing the corals, we systematically track their evolution and gain valuable insights into the health of the reef and the resilience of different coral species.
- Immunology Testing: Samples from your adopted coral are studied in our laboratory to assess their immune system. This helps us identify 'super corals' that can withstand stressful events like bleaching.
- Comprehensive Reporting: Within a year, you will receive a detailed report on your coral, including its health, growth, and any unique characteristics it may have.
What Does “Name a 3D Model of a Coral” Mean?
When you adopt a coral and choose to name it, you get to assign a unique name to a specific coral in our 3D model coral database. This model is a detailed digital representation of the coral, created using advanced photogrammetry techniques. Naming a coral allows you to create a personal connection with it and follow its progress over time through our updates and reports. Your chosen name will be associated with the coral in all our records and communications.
Adoption Tiers
We offer three tiers of coral adoption, each with unique benefits and levels of involvement
Caretaker
Defender
Guardian
Your Impact
Adopting a coral directly supports our mission to conserve coral reefs and enhance our understanding of these vital ecosystems. Your contribution helps fund essential research, conservation, and public education efforts. Together, we can make a significant difference in the fight to protect our oceans.
