LAGUNA BEACH, Calif. (November 14, 2022) – Soul Community Planet (SCP) today announced a new partnership with the Boardriders Foundation and SeaTrees as part of its Every Stay Does Good program. Through Every Stay Does Good, SCP’s guests help to make the world a better place through special programs that advance the values of wellness, social good and sustainability. With today’s announcement, SCP will plant one SeaTree – or kelp or seagrass – each time a guest stays at the SCP Seven4One Hotel or the Laguna Riviera Hotel. The program will help restore the marine ecosystem along the Southern California Coast and foster positive climate change.

Blue carbon ecosystems, like mangroves and kelp, have the ability to sequester 5-10 times more carbon dioxide per acre than terrestrial forests, making them not only an important for biodiverse marine habitats, but also a powerful force in storing persistent greenhouse gas and mitigating the effects of climate change.

In addition to helping restore the marine ecosystem along the Southern California coast, SCP and Boardriders intend to co-host periodic beach cleanups and other events to help care for the spectacular coastline of Laguna Beach.

Today’s announcement is an expansion of other Every Stay Does Good partnerships designed to make truly regenerative travel a reality. In 2021, SCP launched the Pristine Makai program in partnership with the Hawai’i Wildlife Fund. The program focuses on keeping the Big Island’s beaches pure and healthy by facilitating the recovery of marine debris that makes its way to Hawai’i’s southern shores from the great pacific garbage patch. To date, SCP’s Pristine Makai program has facilitated the recovery of more than 31,000 pounds of trash from an ecologically sensitive beach.
