BEGIN YOUR JOURNEY IN
LAGUNA BEACH
First stop, feel the energy of Laguna Beach, a true surfer’s paradise. Stay at Laguna Surf Lodge, where your beachfront getaway begins at our doorstep. Nestled steps away from the sands of Laguna Beach, our hotel invites you to savor stunning sunsets, warm days, and cool evenings—all without leaving the property. Simply step down to the beach, catch the sunset, go for a swim, or rent a paddleboard —it's all right there. And if you keep walking, you'll make your way to Main Beach Park for even more swimming, surfing, kayaking, and beach volleyball. When you’re all dried off, check out Shaw’s Cove, a laid-back spot known for its coral reefs, sandstone rock formations, and aquamarine waters. And for all you art lovers, you’re in for a treat. The Laguna Art Museum has over 3,000 pieces in its permanent collection.

SAN LUIS OBISPO COUNTY SOUTH & NORTH COAST
You’ll have a blast in Pismo Beach, famous for its exquisite seashore. Witness hundreds of butterflies at the Monarch Butterfly Grove, or sip on some vino at top-rated wineries in nearby San Luis Obispo. Hop back in the car and head over to Morro Bay, a prime spot for kayaking and amazing views of Morro Rock, an enormous volcanic formation. After, make your way to San Simeon and uncover the history of Hearst Castle, the lavish hilltop estate of the famous publishing tycoon. Next up, follow Highway 1 to the Elephant Seal Rookery. Take a stroll on the boardwalk and smile at the sight of hundreds of elephant seals lounging and playing along the shore.

MONTEREY COUNTY
This leg of the road trip is truly some of the most spectacular stretches of driving you’ll ever experience. Wind along Big Sur, a rugged—and sometimes very narrow—stretch of coastline, and make your way to Pebble Beach. Pay an entrance fee and enter the scenic 17-Mile Drive, where you’ll be treated to coastal cliffs, misty forests, and the beautiful Spanish Bay. After a few hours of sightseeing, drive to the chic and artsy Carmel. This coastal enclave is known for its trendy boutiques, great dining spots, and art galleries. And when that coastal fog rolls in, you’ll see how mystical this city can be. Now, onto Monterey, a storybook fishing village renowned for whale watching and home to some must-visit spots like Fisherman’s Wharf, Monterey Aquarium (don’t miss the jellyfish!), and historic Cannery Row. And don't forget to make time for the Monterey Bay Coastal Recreation Trail. It stretches 18 miles along the coastline, making it perfect for leisurely strolls or bike rides, with plenty of attractions to explore along the way.

MUIR WOODS, POINT REYES & SAUSALITO
First up, put on your hiking shoes and enjoy the most magical hike through ancient, towering redwoods at Muir Woods National Monument. Is your camera roll getting a workout yet? Then, head north to Point Reyes National Seashore and drive down Sir Francis Drake Blvd., heading to Point Reyes Lighthouse. The drive leads to a stunning canopied throughway, The Cypress Tree Tunnel. For the best water views in the area, hike up the Chimney Rock Trail. Ready to satisfy your sweet tooth? Grab a scoop (or three) of ice cream from Lapperts in Sausalito, and wander along the waterfront to check out the incredible houseboats floating nearby.

FINAL DESTINATION
MENDOCINO
For the final leg of your trip, jump right into the foliage and red maple leaves at Sinkyone Wilderness State Park in Humboldt and Mendocino. Next on the agenda is Mendocino Headlands Park, with impressive views of coastal bluffs and cerulean waves. Keep your eyes peeled for some awesome wildlife sightings—gray and humpback whales usually make an appearance starting in November, and you’ll always find some mischievous seals and otters playing around. For some inland exploration, this region has many family-owned, organic wineries. Be sure to stop by Frey Vineyards right along the Russian River. The staff might surprise you when you see adorable goats helping in vineyards.
You'll likely be hungry at this point in your adventure. Indulge in a memorable meal at Terra Mar Kitchen, nestled at our other Mendocino property, SCP Mendocino Coast Lodge. You'll enjoy delicious food, warm hospitality, and captivating ocean views. If you decide to extend your stay, Luna Trattoria is another fantastic choice, serving up classic Northern Italian cuisine that locals enjoy.
After a long and exciting road trip, you'll find a warm and welcoming home at SCP Mendocino Inn and Farm. Don’t forget to dine at Terra Farm Kitchen, where every dish is crafted with local ingredients for a delightful dining experience. We can't wait to welcome you!
